Wow what a weekend!!
So I spent three days at the end of last week and the beginning of the weekend at the Leadership Summit in Calgary. This leaders conference is put on by Willow Creek a huge church in Illinois. Whatever, all that is just some meaningless info for those of you who care to know.
Bill Hybels, the pastor of this Willow Creek, believes very heavily in the local church and talks about it as the hope of the world. Very interesting and challenging because I work in the local church and wonder what kind of hope we give to the local community. How we are being all that God had hoped we would be?
This may be the first in many blogs about this conference because it has stirred some interesting thoughts and questions in Mark's Mind. So for today and maybe only to start today, what are we doing to bring hope to the local communities we live in? Are we as the "church" self serving or are we serving the community and trying to heal the hurting and bring hope to the hopeless, food to the starving, or water to the thirsty? Remeber Christ came for the sick not the healthy.
Thanks for your time chew on that on for a while and let me know what you think.

there we go now we can post
what i was going to say was something about how it seems that few people are really tha interested in hope these days almost like they don't need it. kinda like they have gotten used to their sub par lives and see thier divorces, annorexia, addictions as a sort of badge of honor. I wonder if hope makes any sense for 'our' world. Think about the thousands of 'kids' who we desperately try to offer a different lifestyle and they listen, cry a little, tell us that we right and then go and do thier own thing anyways. i'm not saying hope is a bad thing or that the church isn't the hope of the world but i just don't know if hope really makes sense today...

Hope is an interesting thing and maybe needs more discussion but is something that keeps us living and striving for more. The hope that things will be better, the hope for health, the hope that one day one thing we say or do will sink in and make sense.
Without Hope i would be doing something else. My hope convinces me that what I do may one day make a difference. The only reason I can have this hope is because someone did this same thing for me and showed me Christ in a form that made sense, .....i guess.

Thank Erich for those thoughts. I guess tying love and hope together is exactly my point. Your post takes our thinking back further to the family and i think you are talking church family more specifically. I this same conversation with someone today. My question is more about the hope we are offering to the people in our community. You make a good point though if we can't love eachother then how do we love the people outside of the church?
